Important Information on January Tournaments

Longhorn Classic Sunday Jan. 16th
Greenhorn Beginner's Tournament Monday Jan. 17th

On Sunday Jan.16, 2011, Kell Wrestling is hosting the Longhorn Classic Tournament at Kell High School. On Monday Jan.17, we are hosting the Kell Greenhorn Tournament. During both of these tournaments, we will have our “World  Famous” Hospitality Room open for the visiting coaches. Kell is known to have one of the best hospitality rooms in the state!   Think about your best crock pot dish if you choose to donate in that category.   This will be the first of several tournaments Kell will be hosting.  These are our major fundraisers and everyone's participation is needed for the success of the Kell Wrestling Program. You will be hearing from me again as the next tournaments approach. They will be coming up quickly, just a few weeks apart.

To make this successful we need each  family  to donate beverages (one case of water and one case of soda) and a food item for the hospitality room.

Items needed  for each day:

Breakfast:

  • Bagels with cream cheese
  • Donuts
  • Pastries
  • Fresh Fruit (Bananas, Apples, oranges)
  • Breakfast Casseroles (Egg dishes, hash brown dishes)

Lunch:

  • Crockpots (# 10 – 12)
  • Sandwich Trays (# 2 – 3)
  • Chips with dips
  • Hot wings
  • Desserts

Drinks:

  • Water 1 case per family
  • Coke Products 1 case per family

Beverages need to be delivered to Coach's room by Friday noon before the tournaments.

Joanne Hogan (hogie72@bellsouth.net) and  Jamie Hollifield (rjhollifield@comcast.net) are coordinating the food.  Email Joanne or Jamie your preference of food item and day so they can be sure that all items on the list are covered.

Thanks for your support of Kell Wrestling!

Longhorn & Greenhorn Volunteers

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday season. In addition to enjoying time off, we need to look ahead to the first wrestling tournaments that Kell will be hosting this season -- the Longhorn Classic and the Greenhorn Junior Tournament. The Longhorn Classic will take place on Sunday, January 16, 2011. The Greenhorn Junior Tournament takes place the very next day on January 17, 2011. Those two days fall in the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend.

The Longhorn and Greenhorn tournaments provide opportunities not only for our program to shine in the wrestling community but also for our program members to enjoy fellowship with each other while raising much needed funds for Kell Wrestling. The events are two full days of wrestling, and they will be successful if we all pitch in and help.

Specifically, we need volunteers to help in the following areas: wrestler weigh-in, gate workers, concessions, and food preparation. Attached are two sign-in sheets -- one sheet for each tournament. Please look at the sheets and determine your desired time and location you would like to work for each tournament. To clarify, that means everyone volunteers for one shift at the Longhorn... and then one shift for the Greenhorn. Provide your preferred choice to work... and then your alternate choice to work for each tournament. (That's two choices per tourney.)

Once you've made your choices, please e-mail them to me. These slots will be filled on a "first-come, first-serve" basis. I will send updating e-mails twice daily to let everyone know what positions and times they are working. Time is of the essence here, as we must have these positions filled before the boys report back to school. If we do not hear from you by that time -- and we have remaining slots open -- we will then assign you positions and times.

Thanks for your sacrifice and your help. If you're new, and you've never worked a tournament like this, expect to have a good time. It's very fun to mix with the Kell parents and wrestlers in an environment where our boys are not competing. Everyone is very friendly and very relaxed. If you've worked tournaments before, you already know this.

Enjoy the rest of your break. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

John Jensen
